9/12 update ROTJ Boba 501st approved!

Didn't notice it before, in the picture you posted mike to kevnaminute about the color of the gloves, Boba's back armor isn't attached to the neck armor?

Must of been just for this seen? otherwise 501st requirement states (back armor must be attached to neck armor).

It was just a costume malfunction during filming. They either didn't notice or didn't care during editing.

Kenaminute I looked at your 3 pictures again and yes I agree with everyone else about the weathering at least with the jumpsuit. Then either I don't see it or you don't have it. The divers buckle with black strap around the waist? I just received my new (ROTJ) boba fett jumpsuit from Boba Maker and I had him weather it. Besides fitting great, his weathering was the same as mine on my old jumpsuit. I wanted someone to weather it that has done alot of them. So I felt pretty good with my old one. lol IMG_20150726_122626323.jpg

The divers buckle and strap are tier 2 requirements for 501st. They are not required for basic authentication since many do different jetpack harnesses.

cellspacing="10" width="100%" style="width: 100%"
|-
| For level two certification (if applicable):

  • Must have a white light in the beacon
  • Must attach to the harness via two metal hooks that exit the rear of the jetpack.
  • Must have a black webbing waist belt connected either to the pack itself or a harness. This belt must have an accurate US Divers buckle (or replica).

|-
| For level three certification (if applicable):

  • Must have accurate scuba tank frame with black webbing waist belt connected to include the accurate US Divers buckle (or replica).

Yes Crumdum you are right sorry, I went right for the level two on mine. I forgot.

Thanks Jarice - yeah the divers buckle will probably be an add later - you know you're never done with fett lol

Those buckles are surprisingly easy to locate, believe it or not you can nab one off EBay for 20-30 bucks!

Hey guys, been working a ton on my weathering. Also had a chance to repaint my bells and knees and was able to lay down a nice mist of orange this afternoon (yep, even after I took a few pics in the sun I could tell they were just to orange). These are two quick shots I took with my iPhone and would love opinions. I'm not sure if I need any more orange or not. Added a little rust wash and really like the effect it gives (ages the armor). The flight suit has been an every other day work in progress. And after taking the shots and uploading them I realize I didn't get a full one (wish you could see the area around the spats, looks like I went with a couple of Hobbits to Mt. Doom). Still some areas I want to attack.

Hey guys, some shots and questions: 1st photo is natural light in living room, second photo outside, third photo is a back shot. Is that a generally good placement for girth and ammo belt? After seeing the photos, once again, I wasn't really happy with the knee color, so I laid down another mist of orange and am generally pleased with the results. The only thing is I need to go back and touch up some paint areas and redo the silver damage. Knees/Shoulders have been a pain to say the least (but isn't that the case when you get older? lol)

But, as you can see, I've been working on my weathering...:)

A couple of observations.

1) Weathering overall is much better. I would still weather a little more your thong strap and the spats you have need significantly more weathering. The spats are not to be as dark as the pant bottoms...but definitely need more weathering. I am including a picture of my spats which got approved for comparison purposes.

Before

After weathering

Notice how much darker they are now.

Hears a full frontal of the costume taken at Celebration IV (photo found here http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/gall...on-iv-05-24-2007/p7979-boba-fett-costume.html)

Boba-Fett-Costume-CIV-052407A-13.jpg

2) The way you are wearing the girth belt and ammo pouch is incorrect. The girth belt is supposed to be entirely over the kidney plate. The ammo belt goes on over the top of the girth belt then in the back.

Canon from skiff scene. (found here http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/gall...ba-fett-return-of-the-jedi-costume-skiff.html)

Here's the 501st setup as well

480px-BH_Boba_ROTJ_Full.jpg

3) Ammo belt placement - Frankly where the belt is worn shifted constantly in the movie. They simply wore it over the girth belt and hoped for the best in my opinion. Here are a few images from the movie to make my point.

Boba and Han...

Basically the ammo belt is all over the place as you can see from these shots. I would follow the 501st mainly for standardization but really it changed a lot. A lot of the positioning will be dependent on your vest. There needs to be a gap between your vest and where the ammo belt is according to the CRLs (although it doesn't specify by how much).

4) Love the knees they look perfect IMO.

5) I got dinged for bagginess at the bottom of my pants. You might have to pull the pants farther down over your boots to remove it. Notice in the 501st image there isn't much bagginess there (but you might luck out and get a GML who is not as tough as mine was on the CRL).

Hey all, couple more pics of my Boba - think I'm finally getting there although there are still tons of things I've got to work on. Boba is like a dang Money Pit! Every time you get one issue solved another pops up. Lol.

I took these pics at lunch and was by lone self so I apologize for the poor quality shots (iPhone on delay). And please ignore the mess (and theweimaraner). We have twin girls who are in a constant state of motion! Also no jetpack shots and I had to lose one glove to handle the phone. And my blasted shin tools are in the wrong pouches!

What I've done since my first post:

- LOTS of weathering. Layers of acrylics on the jumpsuit, took sandpaper to it and the vest. Also rubbed the vest on my garage floor.
- Repainted my knees and shoulders. I think I've got the right glow about them and have added some weathering with chalk (waiting on my dullcoat spray).
- Added snaps at the knee on the jumpsuit and tightened the straps. Makes a big difference because my knees were sagging a bit too much.
- MOW gloves. I love Christian's girth and ammo belt (after weathering), but the gloves have been a hassle. Had to reinforce both trigger fingers with stiches when they came loose and padding was coming out. Also where the thumb meets the glove as well. Will probably buy another pair from another vendor. Maybe I just got a bad set?
- Weathered side pouches with sandpaper and more acrylic wash as well as boots.

Things still to do:

- Attach hoses. Have some on order and waiting.
- Attach new rangefinder stalk. Mine snapped (note it's absence), but I have an aluminum one from Mojo on the way.
- I'm having issues with my collar and from the pictures I may need to add snaps to hold it in place. Right now it's free floating and I'm afraid when the jetpack goes it's going to be a constant pain in the neck. :D. I just think it needs to be lower, maybe?
- Add chest lights. I tried the duck tape method, but the lights shifted on me. I had placed cut pieces of heavy cardstock against the back of the lights. Just didn't want to goo the circuit board up with tape, but I may have to. Any suggestions are welcome. It's a Fettronics.
- Attach the chest diamond. It's just stuck there with velcro (the sticky kind and not sewn on) right now. Everything else is snaps.
- I'm missing one of the push button switches, so I'll have to order a replacement. The top was missing when I purchased the gaunts.
- Need a balaclava (something cheap would be nice!)
- Dirty my spats more.
- Also I may need to have my vest shortened. I'm not sure if it's because I couldn't get the vest all the way tight (being alone) or not.
- Add foam to front of jumpsuit.

Again, any advice or suggestions is welcome!

This is looking REALLY good man. Then colours and weathering are awesome! The suit fits you really well too!

I hear ya on the vest being a bit long. A quick trip to a seamstress will have that fixed in a jiffy.

Keep it up!!

Lol - luckily my mom is a good seamstress!

Really appreciate it Aaron, coming from someone who's build I've relied on and how you really took ROTJ Fett to the next level of accuracy!

Funny you should mention needing a balaclava--I was just looking for one this morning on Amazon. You can find them for under $10 there,

Thanks Zero - I ended up getting the Under Armor one for the heat. It doesn't get that cold down here in the south.

The Call of Duty skull would have probably scared the kiddies peeking under the lid...:devil

You're getting closer. The weathering on what you have done so far is much better.

Some concerns from looking at your pictures.

1) You have an issue though with the vest. It's too big for you currently. You must have between 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch of vest space between the bottom vest armor piece and the bottom of your flak vest. Your photo looks like its at least an inch, closer to an inch and a half. If you were closer up top I would say you could easily move the armor down more...but you have a big gap up top as well.It was impossible to tell from your previous photos because your arms blocked that area.

2) Your girth belt and ammo belt look a little high to me, but its tough to tell without the vest being accurate.

Another update - sort of. (I think I just like taking pictures of myself in Star Wars gear - is that weird?)

Anyway it was raining buckets on Friday so I was able to get the hoses attached. No natural light in these shots. I call this series "Boba in Toyland" due to the slide in the back : )

Again, also, no jetpack as I was alone (and, hence, no glove as I was using the iPhone). Also waiting on my aluminum stalk from Mojo but once it arrives I should be finished. The next shots I post should be professional ones taken outside and for submission.

Couple of things:

- I've since trimmed another inch from the hoses (they're attached under the sleeve with the good old key ring/elastic/spring method). I found that cut down considerably on the tricep bulge. They also weren't attached very well as you can see in my "subtle" recreation of a gallery image (minus range finder). They popped loose. I've since remedied that with duck tape.

- I'm struggling with the collar. I'd actually like it a little bit lower but I think it sits fine and it's probably more screen accurate. Still I can feel an ever so gentle tug at my neck when wearing it.

- The wookie braids were giving me fits at where they are in these photos (just in my way really), so I've moved them over nearer to the shoulder bell. They're safety pinned.

- The foam padding in the front really fill out the pockets - maybe too much?

- This was my first time working with my electronics so getting everything piled into a side pouch (mines on the left) was an event - aker, iPhone for the voice synth, chest lights, wires. The weight really effects the ammo belt as one side was definitely lower. Next time I'll tighten some more.

- Some final parts arrived today! Balaclava to hide my whiskers and dullcoat to knock the sheen off my shoulders/knees.

- On another note regarding the voice synth app: It occurred to me to actually use an older iPhone I had in my desk drawer. I actually have a 5, but had an iPhone 4s with a cracked screen. Simply swapped the app over to that iPhone and now I have a dedicated voice synth for my gear rather than having to use my "real" phone. (Which was a hassle as I had to take it actually out of the Otter Box it was in to connect the splitter).

Thanks all!

Nicely done man! Gettin' there! It definitely is fun walking around in a Boba costume :)

You duct taped the hoses? At which point? I glued mine at the hose connectors so they don't get disconnected at that point. The foam....I dunno. I've never been a fan of the 'boxy' look for the front ROTJ pockets. Up to you though.

Looking closer at your gauntlets - what kind of darts do you have? Is it just me or are they sticking out a bit too much? Can they be moved?

The collar shouldn't really be bothering you until the jetpack is put on. You might need to bring it down a bit because once the jetpack is on, it will really be uncomfortable.

Everything else is bang on man!
