1st time painting need to know what I did wrong.

This is my 1st time trying to paint or building any kind of costume. I was happy with the way this was coming out up until I got to the part it all went wrong. My trouble started after I applied the matte coat I have some pic of the before and after. I think what happened here was in the spots that the matte was applied to thick cause the paint to bubble. Can anyone confirm this or should I try something different to take the gloss off? Any tips or hints are greatly appreciated.

what brands of paint? Certain paints dont play well with others...Im guessing a rusto matte clear?

All of the paint was Rust-Oleum expect the matte finish was from Krylon and I did not use a clear coat yet. You think this is just a bad pick in paint?

Rustoleum and Krylon are mortal enemies. The will not play well with each other.

If at all possible stick with one brand. On Jango the best paint tones come from Rustoleum Royal Blue and Krylon Ocean Blue and you have to work hard to make them play nice with each other, for Jango it it worth the trouble but for Boba I bet you can stay all in one family of paints.

Oh and btw... listen to Fett 4 Real's advice he knows his stuff.

I would start over...get testors dull coat instead...its more pricey but doesnt have that problem when going over the claret whine? Also it could have been the silver which rusto silver the regular metallic silver? Or was it the american accents silver?

One other thing to get the shine out of an object is using wirewhool #0000 and slightly buffing it. Works fine with helmets and other stuff.

    Try it bro.

Fett 4 Real you are dead on with the paint colors I used a regular metallic but thought it had a little too much glitter. So I used steel wool 0000 to bring that down a bit and then used the claret whine satin. I also used an auto primer as my base. I have already started to strip and sand this back down to start again and I noticed around the bad spots that I was able to peel the paint off just like the liquid masking. Would that be from the matte? I did sand the piece with 120 grit before the primer and then sanded the primer with a 1200 before moving onto the metallic. So I would think the paint should have been able to hold a little better than it did. Again this is my 1st time doing anything like this and most of the techniques are from this forum and others. This was not something I was expecting to get right the 1st time out. So I appreciate all the tips and will try to use them in the next go around. And my last thought is if I used the steel wool on the claret whine could I then use just a flat clear coat and get the same look as the matte?
