01Hawk WIP : Supertrooper

The pistol is a Vektor CP1 (9mm). They seem to use them in a bunch of movies /TV shows so I am gonna make them and try and sell them since no one seems to have them available - That is my first try at molding and casting and was for my friend's Hunger Games Peacekeeper costume at Baltimore Comic Con this weekend .

I am excited to get things started! The helmet is really smooth and I am just going to primer it and paint it to see how it looks. As far as the jetpack goes, it has a lot of marks in the casting but I am going to be using a primer that will hide most of them. I have used this primer on auto body parts and it hide a ton of crappy bodywork. I work as an insurance adjuster and have auto painter friends who are anxious to help. But yea, the rocket pieces need to be completely filled and sanded. The base has a lot of minor surface scratches but I am going to fix the major areas, primer it and see how it looks from there.

Aside from the casting lines and dimples that have to be sanded/filled , I am thinking the primer will fill most of the imperfections. If not I will just glaze the whole thing , knock it back down and re primer it. It will be painted with white automotive paint and cleared/wet sanded and buffed so the color will be fairly forgiving

Doing some fitting and sanding

To give an idea of time involved - I cut out the thruster holes and sanded the rocket parts and thrusters ( first 120 and then 220) in about an hour. I will rinse them and they should be ready for primer

Chest lights ordered, emails out to Try and find toe spikes /darts/beacon and post in the Helmet section to try and figure out which helmet to use.

I have a running joke with my son ( who likes the newer Star Wars movies) about Jar Jar - when I saw this towel it was just soooo bad I had to get it .

The 6 hours worth of work needed for the jetpack may not be too far off. Was using wood filler as the instructions recommended but am going to switch to Icing body filler instead. I guess the amount of work you want to put into it depends on how smooth you want it to be. Most of the straight lines on it are relatively small areas so I don't think you would pick up highs/lows as much as you would on a car. May possibly just fill all the large holes ( I guess from casting ) and primer it to get a feel for what shows

There are all these holes/indents around it that need to be filled, small pits that the primer would prob fill and the seams all around need to be sanded. This I my first jetpack so I'm not sure how smooth/flat the flat pieces/side panels need to be. I am basing the overall finish off what I would expect a body repair on a car to be but I kinda think that may be overkill

More parts today! Although I was impatient, I am glad I was able to get these parts from MachineCraft Replicas .. Every time I get something new and I think I have everything on the list , I remember something else I need. For now I need the towel, visors for my helmets, switches for the gauntlets, the hose, stuff to make the flamethrower and an electronic range finder.

Man, I for one love seeing the collection of parts. I've been collecting parts for an ESB Fett for almost a year and every time I think I have a good little stockpile going, I come in here and go "Oh, yeah, there's this, and that, and that, and I still need this...and this...and that..."

Seriously, man, I'm drooling over here a bit.

As far as making the boots white- man of war suggested latex house paint. I bought a can of fabric/vinyl dye used for interior trim on cars yesterday and am going to try that. If not I am going to go to Joann fabrics and see what they have to dye it with.
