Hey yall. I've been gone for a while what with work and such. I've been wanting to build a Mandor for a while now, but cost/time/motivation (I know, I suck) have kept me from it, so in the interim, I'm going to be building a lightsaber. I've been working on it for a while and only recently settled on a design (and talked the wife into letting me spend the money to do it, heh). My best friend and I are building our sabers together, so this may wind up being a dual build thread.

I was originally planning on doing a straight PVC saber, but I found myself a nice piece of copper tubing that I think I'm going to use as my hilt base. The power source for this saber is a 3 watt tactical flashlight, which lights up the 40" white poly blade and color disks I got in last night from The Custom Saber Shop. It's a nice even blade color, without the usual flare at the base of the blade that you get with the Luxeon LED style sabers (dang, I kinda wanted that...). I'm going to be making a trip to the local hardware store to pick up the rest of my supplies some time this weekend, and I'll try to take as many pictures as I can. Hopefully I'll have something workable soon.

I'm gonna use the copper tube as my base, probably with chrome sinktube accents, and use the PVC for the internal chassis. I've got a boot zipper panel (the kind that you lace onto your boot to have a zip front boot) that looks pretty snazzy around the outside of my copper tube, and feels comfortable in my hand. I think I'm gonna go with that around the outside of everything else, giving it one more layer and a sort of used/cobbled together look. Going to weather the copper and the leather of the zipper panel, leaving the only "less used" pieces the emitter and switch.

I wanted to finally share with the community a project we took on for Star Wars Celebration V. Myself and another R2 Builder, Daren Murrer, were looking for a prop to build for the Echo Base-themed Droid room. After watching the movie looking for ideas, I finally noticed a little-known Star Wars vechicle that had been hiding in plain sight: The Rebel Troop Carrier.

The troop carrier can be seen in most of the Echo Base scenes in ESB, as well as one scene in ROTJ. You can see (and hear) the vehicle at the 18 sec point of this video: YouTube - 1 - Han Enters Echo Base

Because of the relative obscurity of the prop, we had to start from scratch: taking our own screen grabs and determining dimensions from there. The final prop is 12 feet long, six feet wide. The cart was built with over 220 individual pieces of cabinet-grade plywood cut on a CNC router table. It's fully mobile thanks to the Taylor Dunn utility cart that it is built on and has a range ~22 miles. It has front, rear, and interior lights as well as a four speaker stereo system with CD and iPod input.

After we got back from Celebration V, we took the Troop Carrier in for a photo shoot. (Photos by Christian Dohn)
The interior was designed and dressed by Star Wars artist Chris Reiff. The dash utilizes such Star Wars staples as Visible V8 engine parts and a real Viscount Reading light. The two video screens are for the front and rear facing driving cameras to help with visibility.

Hey guys, long time no see!

Well with my ROTJ build coming to an end, I've started working on a few other costumes.

One that I've been wanting to build for a while is of Kankuro from Naruto (I am a multi-facited nerd:lol).

Attachment 46149The unique thing about this costume is that the costume itself, is not the most Difficult thing about this build. The hardest thing to build will be the human-sized "puppet" this character uses as a weapon.
Named "Karasu" (Crow in Japanese), this puppet is roughly 4 feet tall and sports 4 arms multi-jointed.
here's a picAttachment 46150.

Now, in the anime, this puppet is presumably made of wood, but since I lack the skill ang patience necessary for carving, I'll be using fiberglass.

The most difficult part of the puppet build will be the head. here's a pic of one that was made by someone else Attachment 46151(not me) out of wood. any advise would help.

Hi!! I am new to the dented helmet, and just wanted to introduce myself. I am Brian Sullivan, and I really really want to join the 501st. I got lucky in love and married a woman with the same interests as me. I love cartoons, Star Wars, and Transformers). I got lucky because I'm 37 and shes 25 (do the math, I am making out like a bandit). I have 1 child who is soon to be a 5 year old son. He makes me so proud because when we were at Star Wars Celebration V he recognized and named off the characters he saw (insert tear of pride). He enjoys Thomas the Train, Batman, Superman, Star Wars (of course) and his favorite pastime with mommy and daddy is light-saber duels in the front yard just before bedtime.

I recently got my wife hooked onto Star Wars. It has taken six years but now she is hooked. She recently did a literary analysys of Star Wars from a Mythological point of view. A very brialiant paper. Her professor said it was the best on Star Wars she had read. Danielle's homework in part was for us to watch the original trillogy for three days. I really enjoyed that homework.

I enjoy being a stay at home dad / home maker. I have decided I want to build a Jango Fett costume and anyone who knows anything about it, I would love some guidance. I graduated from Chipola Jr college with a degree in Criminal Justice that I am obviously not using. Feel free to drop me a line.
Well thats all for now. Looking forward to making some friends and allies in the Star Wars world.
